2003-08-26 - 3:46 p.m. - diaryevals review by rory...

The following is my review from DiaryEvals as reviewed by Rory. This review site is unique in that it stopped giving out "scores" or "grades" a while back. That of course leaves the most important part, the evaluation.  This is actually the quickest review turnover I had ever received.  If memory serves me right I submitted my request just before I left work and got the notice my review was completed in my guestbook by the time I got home that same evening. To be fair I somehow wound up on her favorites list a fair amount of time previously so she was familiar with my work.

I guess I should recall a little history. I had a review pending in Orgasmic Reviews (which consequently is completed now and my comments are coming soon.). It's one of those sites where a review of your diary could go scintillatingly well or terribly awry, depending on your content, layout and how it relates to the reviewer and her particular mood. I've had acquaintances that have done well on that site and I've had others that have done not so well. Needless to say, the ones who have done really well on that site have caught my attention. Rory's diary scored very high (the highest thus far) there. So I added her to my buddy list, she returned the favor, we exchanged a bunch of notes and the rest as they say is history.

Anyway, since the review is short but sweet I'll list the review and add my own comments bulleted and in bold:

First Impression: My first impression is a bit biased since youre already a member of my Buddy List, but I can be partial! Your layout is quite a bit more festive than most black-background layouts. You keep it light and readable, for the most part. Although I really like the effects on your banner (the one thats in the upper left-hand corner) its very difficult to read the url of your site on the banner. You need to lighten that up a bit.

  • I'll play with the brightness settings on the banner, thank you for pointing that out.

I adore the rotating woman (very sexy) and the picture of yourself (again, sexy) at the top. I also like the way you incorporated the silhouette into the layout.

  • point 1 - agreed
  • point 2 - *blush*
  • point 3 - Thank you, it's one of my fave aspects of the layout. Cool fade effect aside, it's my own artwork which started out as a pencil sketch and was scanned. I later applied a "filter effect" using in image editor.

Everything is well organized (especially the links...thank God!) and easy to navigate. A reviewers wet dream. (FYI: I like the way you listed out all your links as opposed to using the dropdown menus that you use on the "older" pages.)

  • Yeah, I like this way better too. I was "experimenting" with different menu interfaces (such as drop down menus) but I think that works out the best. I'm especially glad to be able to contribute to your wet dreams. ;)

Writing: This is anything but the typical "Man journal". You are intelligent, witty, sensual, and very expressive. You arent afraid to show the world exactly what you think (and on occasion what you feel.) You have a writing style thats all your own. You have one of the most extensive Bio sections out there and you really bare it all. (And a Portfolio to boot!)

  • Woah, I can't believe people have actually read those sections... I guess that's a good thing since I'm not the type of person to go on and on about myself in "real life". That's what I like about this diary if someone is curious about me that person can delve into my details on a strictly voluntary basis. To use a really colorful metaphor, I don't really have to shove it down anyone throats.

  • My portfolio has been sorely neglected. There are so many more pictures I have taken that I want to add and there are some many more pictures I want to take. I just want to walk around downtown, around the lake and capture images. There are times I walk around and notice something beautiful and unusual and just wish I had a fucking camera with me. Hopefully I can take one of my last days before school starts and do some of that stuff I've been meaning to do.

Most "Man Journals" leave quite a bit to be desired. You, my friend, are the exception to the rule. You are open minded, honest, and humorous to boot. I cant say enough positive things about you (er, I mean your diary.) You tend to go into issues that no other man would dare to write about (like giving up self-gratification for Lent. No man would ever admit that he willfully stopped yankin his crank.)

  • My God, the flattery, please continue... ;) Most reviewers don't really go that far back. I think that's where some of my better writing is. I'm closer to the time of my heartbreaks and sometimes I'm right in the middle of them back then as opposed to now where I'm in an extended relationship drought and trying to write something halfway decent is like trying to extract an impacted wisdom tooth, I have to really go deep down and do something deliberate in order to feel the intensity of the pain. "Feast and Famine" is part of life's cyclical nature I guess. I just hope this famine does not last the rest of my life...

Other: I think the thing that really strikes me about you is the fact that you ARE an extremely sexual person, but you dont devalue sex. Most people with a strong sex drive are simply out to get laid and hold no emotion or respect for it. You dont come off that way. (No pun intended.) You understand the value of a good lay and the emotions attached to it. Any woman that lands between your sheets is certainly lucky!

  • *drum beat and rim shot* Yes, I have a fondness for puns, whether they are indented or not. ;) I'd be lying if I said I was not sexually motivated. I think everything I do everything I write has, in one way or another, some sexual overtone to it and I wouldn't have it any other way. I have had sex with no emotional attachment and I have had sex where I had the emotional floodgates completely flowing. I know exactly where my "nirvana" is. I want, more than anything else, to share that "nirvana" with someone who is seeking that same kind of sexual enlightenment.

Final Thought: Thank you for giving me back my hope and faith in the male population...as journallers and in general.

  • More flattery *ahem* you know that will get you everywhere don't you? ;) Anyway, I would like to return my thanks for such a great review and for once again letting me feel understood. Only a handful of reviewers have given me that feeling and I'm thankful each time it happens. I know that this site doesn't really give out scores or grades, but at the end of this review I really feel that I have "scored" in more ways than one...
